Going Back to Work

I took a early retirement and have been out of work for two years. I worked for the Board of Education for 9 years. If I go back to work for the Board of Education, do I start like a new employee without losing those nine years.

Answer:

Every organization has different seniority guidelines.

I have worked with organizations that allow employees to retain their years of service if they return within a year. On the other hand, I have worked with organizations that do not allow employees who resign or retire to keep their seniority at all. It all depends on the organization.

My recommendation is that you contact the Board of Education Human Resources Department and ask what their policy is.

I hope this guides you in the right direction to find the information that you need. Please use the comments section to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Victoria E.
