In an interview, is it okay for me to ask about the salary?
Answer:
Whether or not you should talk about salary during an interview is a part of interview etiquette.
The proper etiquette is that generally speaking, you should not discuss salary or benefits with the recruiter, hiring manager, or interviewer until AFTER you have accepted a job offer. As soon as you have accepted the job, you should talk about or negotiate your salary at that time. Later may be too late, so bring it up now.
The only time it is acceptable to talk about salary during an interview is if the interviewer talks about it FIRST. The reason for this is that you don't want to appear as though you just want the job for the money. The interviewer wants to see that you are genuinely interested in the position and the company, and not just trying to get a check.
Salary negotiation is an important aspect of starting any new job. Just make sure that you discuss it at the right time: After you have accepted the job.
Good luck with securing your salary requirements!
Sincerely,
Victoria E.
